Heavy summer workloads require the assistance of seasonal staff members including the following seasonal positions:
Biological Technicians - Hired through the Alaska FWS Seasonal Advertisement on USAJOBS openings are posted sometime in October/November for one month for the following year’s summer season.
Bio Techs assist with biological surveys and field camp operations.
Maintenance Workers - Occasionally hired for specific projects. These opportunities are advertised locally.
Student Jobs
- Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) - hires local youth 16 years and older who are enrolled in school.
- Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) - hires students enrolled in a program related to the job, usually undergraduate or graduate students. Participation in the program may lead to permanent employment.
Volunteers - The refuge utilizes volunteers of all ages and skill levels to assist in all refuge activities (pdf) including biological surveys, field operations, maintenance activities and office work.
